Camp Sum Fun

Today in FOA7, we hosted a surprise “Camp Sum Fun” for our kiddos in which they entered into our classroom “campsite” and played camp-parody inspired math games, like a “lake” crossing expedition race that we crafted in makerspace where students had to sit on scooters (kayaks) and row across the lake using pool noodles while stopping at islands to answer math questions before moving forward, fraction s’mores, a mathematical scavenger hunt to discover which dangerous creature was lurking in our campsite and then hunting around the room to find said animal (snake prop), etc. It seemed like too good of a day to not send some photos your way!

YMS Our Story - Ms. Day: Drawing & Painting

Mrs. Day's drawing & painting students learned about the textured work of Wayne Thiebaud and Pop Art. Then, using his use of texture as inspiration, made their own "cake or pie" slice out of slabs of clay, adding realistic texture, decorations and frosting. Depending on work ethic, cleanup efforts, neatness and not throwing clay or intentional clay mess, students earned a cake and pie party. They enjoyed eating treats when they received their individual project back to take home.

Mrs. Ramos’s 6th Grade Advanced English, students are diving into a Mystery Literature Circle Novel Study!

📚 YMS: Our Story Continues… 🕵️‍♀️✨

In Mrs. Ramos’s 6th Grade Advanced English, students are diving into a Mystery Literature Circle Novel Study! Working in teams, students spend 15–20 minutes reading silently or in whispers, then use 10–15 minutes to complete their role-based task goals and share with their group.

Each student takes on an important role—Clue Tracker, Summarizer, Connector, Word Detective, or Predictor—to help crack the mystery together! 🔍🧩

🎥 The photos shared captures the ending of one team’s presentation—great teamwork and thoughtful discussions on display!

🌸 Stay tuned for our next YMS story after Spring Break!
